Well, as I see the number of visits fall and fall and fall from day to day, I really start thinking about jaunscorner.com. It makes me realize that I do have some fun plans I would like to put into reality, but as for now, they are just in my head. So I thought, as a start, it might be a good idea to write some ideas down and even publish them. Not only will this be a very good reminder for myself, but it will also make sure that everybody else knows about them, even though they are not all realized yet.

Thinking Back

I think the greatest thing done on Jaunscorner.com was the wonderful WSIS Diary. I received the best feedback on it so far and I think that reports like that is something I would like to do again. I will have to look out for good moments to do them.
Series could also be done with other kinds of information or entertainment, not only with event reports. And finally, it is important to me not only to present myself and My Guide Dog Leo to the world, but also all my friends out there, to whom you might belong

OK, let’s try to bring it all down into some kind of plan. when could I do what with and on jaunscorner.com?

January 2006: Add a possibility to contact me

YEP - Although there are actually quite a few ways to get in touch with me or Leo, no possibility is being communicated on this web site. You can, of course, post a comment (which you should do by the way), but there should be something like a “Contact Me” Form added somewhere. It seems to me that this shouldn’t be so hard to do, so let’s give it first priority!

February 2006: Create About Pages

Well, I guess it just won’t work to introduce my frinds to the world without introducing me and my guide dog to the world first. Some details about me can be found in some posts on that blog, but I know that it would be most important to have an “About René” and an “About Leo” page, too. So this has to be done soon, too!

March 2006: Move to another Hosting Provider

After having some trouble with HostPoint, my pretty expensive hosting provider, I must consider changing to another service operator. Not only does it seem to me that there are a lot of better offers out there (they are cheaper, but give you the same benefits as HostPoint), but since their breakdown, they promised to apologize in an appropriate way - which did not happen so far. So, it might be time for a change. In my old contract ends in March, so you name it…

April 2006: Unleash René’s Friends

Right now, I don’t know yet how to do it. But I am thinking of asking everyone around for a picture, a description and some more information. This could make a beautiful Renés Friends Gallery. Of course, their blogs would have to be linked, too. And maybe one could even provide a General “René’s Friends Updates” page with all the latest from them
I also think of giving some kind of reward to everyone participating - Free flight Tickets or some stuff like that

May 2006: Leo Of The Week - my noisy declaration of love to the most inteligent dog in the world

Since all of you must come to love my dog as much as I do, I think I will do like a weekly series of Leo Sounds and Noises. Him eating, him sleeping, him running - well, there is so much one can let you listen to. And since there are already so many picture collections of dogs, it is time for something new!

June 2006: Flying with Guide Dogs - who will let us?

There is a lot of bad talk about some, especially low cost, airlines, not allowing guide dogs to enter the cabine of an airplane anymore. Guide dogs must either spend the flight as cargo or they are dennied boarding at all. I think of creating a list, like a survey, of airlines and their practics towards service animals. The list should name the airline; then, it should say under which circumstances guide dogs are allowed in cabine or as cargo and finally list the reasons, especially if animals are not allowed at all. It will mean a lot of work to create it, but it should be doable, shouldn’t it?

Just wanted to let everybody know that it was NOT because of me that Jaunscorner.com was down for about four days, but because of Hostpoint, my hosting provider and, as they call themselves, “The Data Residence”.

They have not yet sent out anything to apologize for the kinda long outage. Well, at least it is prooven now that their uptime is surely smaller than 99.999 Percent

They are, if you ask me, also kind of expensive compared to similar offers in my country. So is it maybe time for a change of hosting provider?

Well, we will see what happens next…

Update 1:
An email, expressing HostPoint’s apologies in words as well as the promise that “more than words” would follow, arrived about 31 hours later. Will I get free cookies from them I wonder?

UPdate 2:
26 days later, they sent me a CHF 20.– gift card which is redeemable at various locations - no cookies though, but at least CDs

UPdate 3:
Another six days later (which is about a month after the problem seemed to be solved for the first time, and just after we switched to a new hosting provider), the server which used to host jaunscorner.com needed to be taken offline again for kind of the same reasons.
