No more dinner in the dark; what now?

March 27th, 2006

After the overwhelming succes of the Blinde Insel (The Blind Island) project, the crew of the Grossen Halle association has decided to spontaneously do three additional nights of serving dinner in the dark. But even with those, on March 30th, it will be the last time (this year at least) where one gets to enjoy that culinary experience in the dark. As for me, I did have my last Island shift on last Saturday already; all that remains for me to do is to say thank you all of you who took the risk letting me be their waiter throughout one night.

But now, what are we going to do with those who never got to enjoy to be on our limited guest list at all?

My Girlfriend Online

March 25th, 2006

YEP! Rhiannon Oehlke, which is my girlfriend, just started her own picture blog at schlapillon.com. She, who actually is from Wisconsin, is spending at least one year in Switzerland right now and shares her traveling impressions with the world by publishing her pictures, taken with her digital camera!

Besides mountains and Swiss traditions, it is your ultimate chance of seeing her papillon dog Maria, some more pictures of Leo and I as well as herself.

So if you ever wondered how she looks that I am in love with or if you want to know how an American can feel over in Europe, I urge you to check it out right now, comment on the pictures and tune in frequently, for the adventure just begun!

Malariacontrol.net is in Beta Stage - wanna join it?

March 7th, 2006

If you feel like keeping your computer busy at times when you run out of work for it, I would really recommend you letting it participate in the Malaria Control . Net Project, which just entered its Beta phase.

It is another BOINC driven application, which means that you will need to download a BOINC client that fits your operating system (if you don’t already have one). But all this is explained on the Getting Started Page.
Right now, you should be able to register as a beta tester - but you better hurry, since their number will be limited!

Eat in the dark, meet René

February 15th, 2006

The Bernese association Grosse Halle is launching (for the third time by the way) the Project Blinde Insel (The Blind Island), which is a three-course dinner, served in a completely endarkened kind of marquee. In the team of waiters (they are all totally or at least almost blind), I also have found a place.

Thus, I invite you with great pleasure to give yourself an evening in the dark with me serving you ;-) LOTS OF FREE SEATS ARE STILL AVAILABLE!!!

These are my working dates:

  • Friday, 17. February *
  • Saturday, 18. February *
  • Tuesday, 21. February
  • Thursday, 23. February *
  • Friday, 24. February
  • Tuesday, 28. February
  • Thursday, 02. March *
  • Saturday, 04. March
  • Thursday, 09. March
  • Friday, 10. March *
  • Saturday, 11. March
  • Tuesday, 14. March
  • Friday, 17. March *
  • Saturday, 18. March *
  • Tuesday, 21. March
  • Thursday, 23. March *
  • Saturday, 25. March
  • Sunday, 26. March *

* NOTE: The marked dates indicate those where I am only working on call, which means that I don’t work unless one of the actually working ones cancels the shift for whichever reason.

How to register
You can fill out the German online registration form, where you can also find the list of already sold out nights. Alternatively, you can give them a call at the 078 854 58 66. IMPORTANT: If you want me to be your waiter, you have to let them know at the time you register yourself and your friends! If you registered online, you will have to give them a call to tell them, since you can’t indicate this request online!

…And don’t forget to let me know when you are coming (by placin a comment to this post for example)…

PS: If you know any German, check out this report from an evening in the dark (in Langnau, though, not in Bern), which was published in a local newspaper recently. You can elieve everything they tell you in there, except that they say I had been blind since I was born, which is not true:)

Welcome to Jaunscorner.com on DREAMHOST

February 5th, 2006

Do you see this message?

If you do, you might be one of the first visitors of jaunscorner.com after it has been placed to a new home.

This site is now hosted by DREAMHOST, where I just got a great sounding (and working) hosting plan. It has 20 gb disk space, unlimited domains to host and - which I like most - an SSH Access;-)

This is also the time to say goodbye to HostPoint, which was my former hosting provider. I actually wanted to change to a new hosting provider in March, but since DREAMHOST had some good specials going on, I thought it was worth to change earlier!

So let me know if you see this! Your comment could be THE FIRST on the new server! AND - if there are comments from enough people (let’s say: More than ten), I will consider giving away something to one of them, OK?
So let me know what you want me to give away and you might get it at all :-)

Keep Enjoying!!!
